The Wirral Peninsula has a splendid canal leading to the sea at Eastham, Birkenhead which also is the birthplace of Adrian Henri and the home of the late Brian Dixon.
Dixon’s Wrestling Enterprises of Birkenhead; the company he founded and operated from what was once his teen bedroom, grew from his early involvement with professional wrestling as the Secretary of the Jim Breaks fan club.
Later rebranded All Star Wrestling, Brian Dixon achieved the distinction of being the independent promoter who broke the strangle hold of the Crabtree family on television wrestling.
This was just before Greg Dyke, in his role as director of programmes at London Weekend Television, cancelled wrestling on TV. He decided no one wanted to spend 45 minutes on a Saturday afternoon watching the grunt and groan boys, in their swimming trunks.
